Instruments on-board MagPlane

Magnetometer
The primary instrument on board MagPlane is a Flux Gate Magnetometer (FGM). This type of high sensitivity Magnetometer is normally flown on-board space craft with missions ranging from Solar activity studies to magnetic mapping of Mars.

For the first time, a Flux Gate Magnetometer of this type was installed on a UAV for mapping the magnetic signature of a suspected meteorite impact crater.

The Magnetometer for this mission is provided by Dr. Mario Acuna/Code 690/NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

For detailed information on the Flux Gate Magnetometer, please visit: http://www.sp.ph.ic.ac.uk/Cluster/index.html

Global Positioning System (GPS)
GPS data will be used for autopilot navigation of the MagPlane, as well as, correlation with magnetometer data.

MiniDigital Video Camera
Provides video view from the MagPlane.

Autopilot
The MagPlane uses a MicroPilot autopilot system.
